Bagalkot Court Recruitment 2024 (eCourts.gov.in) New Notification

Before British rule, which began in 1830 in parts of Bijapur including Bagalkot, the region saw governance under various dynasties such as the Chalukyas, Hoysalas, Vijayanagar, Peshwas, and Nawabs. Later, Marathas like the Ghorpades and Patwardhans held sway. Consequently, during British rule, States like Jamkhandi, Mudhol, and Tikota were retained.

The judicial system, formerly known as “Adalats,” transformed with the advent of British rule. The British introduced the British System of Judicial Administration, starting with the Bombay Regulation Act of 1827. Initially, Adalats persisted until the adoption of the Civil Courts Act of 1869.

The district headquarters underwent several changes since 1830. Initially, the northern part of Bijapur was divided into parts of the Solapur and Satara Districts. The southern part, including Badami and Bagalkot, was in Belgaum District, later merged into Dharwar District. Kaladagi District was formed in 1864.

The judicial administration evolved, culminating in the establishment of the Bagalkot District Court in 2001, coinciding with the formation of the Bagalkot District. The integration of state courts, the conversion of original state courts into Civil Judges (Jr.Dn) Courts, and the consolidation of criminal and civil court administrations were significant milestones in this journey.
